In Hong Kong, exports to this market remained at the same level as the second quarter.

Currently, Vietnam is the third largest white meat supplier to the Chinese market, after Russia and Norway.

Vasep said, a number of Chinese pangasius exporters are gradually shifting their investment to pangasius farming in China and calculating the import and export of tra fish in the future.

Besides, the US – China war is pushing Chinese tilapia to lose ground in the US export market, so Chinese companies are attempting to turn toward catfish production. However, the quality of pangasius meat raised in China is much lower than that of Vietnam and yellow catfish.

“The investment and farming activities plus unpredictable calculations in importing pangasius from Vietnam is also what Vietnamese pangasius exporters should consider”, Vasep warned.
